Mitral Valve Surgery: Pre-Bypass Study
There is severe mitral regurgitation secondary to flail anterior leaflet of the mitral valve (papillary muscle rupture). The MR jet is eccentric and directed posteriorly. The anterior and posterior leaflets of the MV are thickened. There is trivial aortic regurgitation. There is severe tricuspid regurgitation. LV systolic function is normal. There is a pleural effusion present.

A prosthetic tissue mitral valve has been implanted. There is no significant paravalvular leak. The leaflets open well.
