The ME 4C view (10-20°) is obtained by positioning the probe in the mid-esophagus at a depth of approximately 30-35cm. Slight retroflexion of the probe may be required to ensure the ultrasound plane passes through the LV apex to prevent foreshortening of the LV. Turning the probe to the right (clockwise) will visualise the right heart, whilst turning the probe leftwards (counterclockwise) visualises the left heart. This view is useful to get an overview of all 4 heart chambers and to evaluate the mitral and tricuspid valves.
