The ME 5C view (0-10°) is obtained by positioning the probe in the mid-esophagus behind the LA. Slight retroflexion of the probe may be required to prevent LV foreshortening. If a 4 chamber view is seen, the probe should be withdrawn slightly until the LVOT, aortic valve and proximal ascending aorta are seen.
This is often the first view to be obtained when performing a comprehensive TEE study.
